Safe and Secure Rental Coverage

If you are a Scotiabank American Express Gold Card holder, you can enjoy the peace of mind knowing that you are covered for rental vehicle insurance. When you rent an eligible vehicle using your Gold Card you are covered for physical damage and theft of the rental vehicle, up to the cash value of the vehicle, as well as third-party liability. The coverage is subject to a deductible that you are required to pay. This coverage is provided to you at no additional cost.

What is Covered?

The Gold Card Rental Insurance covers the rental vehicle against physical damage and theft, up to the cash value of the rental vehicle, as well as third-party liability up to the legal limit, subject to a deductible. Coverage is provided for rentals of up to 48 consecutive days in Canada and the United States. In addition, the insurance coverage applies for the full term of the rental agreement, including extensions, provided the extensions are made before the original rental agreement expires.

Eligible Vehicle Types

The insurance coverage applies to most rental vehicles, including cars, vans, sport utility vehicles, pick-up trucks, and motorhomes. However, the coverage does not apply to certain types of vehicles, such as certain exotic or antique vehicles, and any vehicle with a declared value of more than $65,000. There may be other types of vehicles that may not be eligible for coverage. Please refer to the Certificate of Insurance for more details.

How to Activate the Coverage

The coverage will be activated automatically when you use your Gold Card to pay for the rental vehicle. You do not need to do anything else to activate the coverage. However, you will be required to pay the deductible if you make a claim for physical damage or theft.

What is Not Covered?

The Gold Card Rental Insurance does not cover damages caused by driver negligence or reckless driving. It also does not cover any personal items that may have been lost or damaged in the rental vehicle, or any consequential damages, such as lost wages or other costs associated with the rental vehicle.
